¡Hola, soy Wendy Kipsanai!

Student Internship en Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen)

I am a recent graduate with a Bachelor of science degree in Geophysics and a strong foundation in earth sciences, data analysis and subsurface exploration. I am skilled in interpreting geological and geophysical data to solve complex problems related to resource discovery and environmental challenges. I specialize in geophysical exploration methods and data interpretation, subsurface imaging and GIS tools. I am excited about innovative solutions in both field and office environments. Complementing this technical expertise, I bring three years of leadership experience with AIESEC, where I developed key skills in project management, operational efficiency and cross-functional collaboration. As a leader, I managed diverse teams, led strategic initiatives and fostered a results-oriented culture, equipping me with strong organizational and interpersonal skills that complement my technical background. I am looking to leverage both geophysical knowledge and leadership experience in a dynamic and growth-focused environment.

Geophysical Investigation of Loss of circulation in Borehole drilling: A Case study of Chemolingot area, Baringo County, Kenya.

    Head of the Project

There is a lot that goes into a drilling project. The most expensive problem routinely encountered is the loss of drilling fluid to fractures in sub-surface rock formations. In many cases, boreholes have been abandoned due to the issue of lost circulation which can quickly put a drilling project into economic strain. Developing improved methods and smart materials that can effectively seal the cavernous type of rocks positively impacts costs, prevents equipment damage as well as environmental damage and risk of death.

By using Geophysical methods, the loss zones are investigated in borehole drilling and located such that, prevention measures are applied to minimize or prevent lost circulation, reducing risks of death and damage, excessive financial loss as well as negative effects to the environment. Once the zone of lost circulation is identified, engineers and expert drillers are able to take control measures in sealing the mud escape zones and prevent adverse lost circulation. This enables drilling to continue until the desired depth. The approach taken involved applying geophysical methods to study and understand the sub-surface of the drilled area of interest.

The Geophysical exploration method used in this project is Vertical Electric Sounding (VES) with Schlumberger Array to determine the electrical resistivity of the subsurface rocks. The quantitative interpretations of the resistivity sounding curves was done and all the findings analyzed. The geologic layers unveiled the subsurface geology of Chemolingot area and informed whether the zone of interest is porous or permeable.
